The Old Cupboard
oil on canvas panel - Öl auf Malplatte - huile sur carton entoilé
15 cm x 15 cm / 5,9" x 5,9"
sold - verkauft - vendu
This old cupboard from the forties or so has a plain white coat of paint which has become a bit yellowish over the years. My husband always wants me to paint something on it, like a "trompe l'oeil" for example, but I like the plainness with the patina, which I think emphasize it's nice proportions. Anyway, although the painting looks quite simple, it was a challenge and I liked doing it.
Oh, and by the way, on top are a few of our collection of tins, I told you about a little while ago.

Liza, This painting has great paint quality and atmosphere. Tactile - I love the warm glow on the cabinet and the way the red garment hangs against it. the balance of warms and cools A beautiful timeless composition with an interesting play of formal and informal elements.
Hi Liza,
I agree with my erudite friend Marcia. As they say in the movies, "what she said." I like this sweater hanging against the cupboard because it's what we do, put the sweater out to wear tomorrow, or to air it, or to let it dry.
You make spaces on canvas where I want to live.

Thanks a lot to both of you!
Sounds good what you say - I am pleased it makes that impression!
At first I thought the composition might be too boring, but now I like it a lot myself (if I may say so...).
I am loving these warm, inviting interiors Liza.
Hi Heidi, so sorry for the late reply - sometimes I simply can't keep up with the blogging world...
And thank you! I am pleased you enjoy them.
