Another attempt at the same subject. I started out completely different with loads of colours and thick paint, but then decided it was far too busy and eliminated more and more details. Now I am quite pleased with the result.

At last we can sit outside again and enjoy the warmth of the sunshine - desperately needed after this long, cold winter. At midday the sun is even hot, in the afternoon it's just right for reading, with a woolen blanket on your lap.

In Barbara's house there are many intimate corners with beautiful still lifes like this one. I discover new things everytime I visit her.
The weather here has changed at last, spring has arrived with sudden bursts of blossoms on fruit trees, of daffodils and crocusses and, best of all, warm sunshine!
We are slowly but surely defrosting, and I might attempt some plein air painting the next days, if it stays as nice. Let's see.

I nearly called this painting "Sofa Skyline" because from a distance it looked like a skyline with a tv tower. But then I thought, no one will have a clue what was going on in my head, so it ended up with a boring name. I'm really not good at that -have to sometimes even resist just giving the paintings numbers....

After indulging into all those bright colors over the last few days, I felt like calming down a bit again. I am playing with the idea of painting a few of these interiors on a larger scale for an exhibition I will be participating in during the summer. I imagine using a really big paint brush and splashing the paint onto the canvas!

Usually at this time of the year we have lunch on the terrace but now we are freezing! Even Barcelona, where my two sons live at the moment, is covered by a deep layer of snow, can you believe it?! Definitely better to curl up in this chair and light a fire in the fireplace.

I love analyzing the colors that a source of light creates on different surfaces and in different values. To realize that a white wall can actually look green or a green cupboard can turn purple under the influence of light is fascinating to me. Things are not always what you think they are...

Uuhh, I am really pleased with this one! You artists out there know what an exciting and uplifting feeling it is when that happens, when the painting just flows on to the canvas, seemingly effortless! I am so happy!

It's so hard painting the faces on this small scale. While the lady on the right just somehow flowed out of my paint brush, the one on the left took me hours and pain. It kept going from too big to too small, from too flat to too dark and so on - drove me nuts! But - finally - I can live with it as it is now.

Yet another version which I am quite happy with. Barbara found the absolutely beautiful, silver teapot that you see a bit of in front, at a "brocante" (flea market) in the area for 5 euros! I was sooo envious!
