Mum

Mum by Liza Hirst

Painting of the day
15 cm x 15 cm / 5,9" x 5,9"
oil on canvas panel - Öl auf Malplatte - huile sur carton entoilé

Over the years I have tried painting my mother several times - without great success.
Sometimes it seems quite difficult for me to paint people I am very close to. I am not happy with this one either, but after having spent hours and hours of trying to capture her features, getting more and more frustrated, I finally decided to leave it at this, which is the closest I could get.

It's a good painting.
If you don't know her she doesn't look bad but she looks thoughtful. Paused. It's hard when you know someone so well.

Well, that's nice that you see that, as it means that I at least captured her mood if not her features.
