Barbara, thank you! I am sorry you had to spend so much time for leaving a comment - no idea what the problem might have been. Yes, she looks a bit sad, or I would say serious, here. When I was taking photographs of her she was actually giving me beautiful smiles, but that often doesn't work in a painting. So I asked her not to smile too much and she then looked VERY serious which I tried to soften a bit. I am pleased that you saw the slight smile! I might attempt to paint another one of her - smiling!

What a great painting. There's an aura of sadness about her, and then this suggestion of humour in her mouth.
The flash of light and the dark, dark behind her head are super. I like the bit of pink coming through. Just lovely.
