Oh man, I love this! What a great portrait Liza! The licks of paint showing the backlight from the window are great. :)

Hi Liza,

What a great painting -- gorgeous colour and that wonderful serious look of observing yourself and recording what you see.

What a wonderful painting! I love the complexity of how the right side of the face is framed by the hair and the white stripe. It really adds a psychological element.

Thank you Jeff! As I am an admirer of your own work, I am very pleased you like my painting!

Hi Barbara, nice to here from you again! I tried to paint myself a little less serious this time, but as painting yourself goes along with serious concentration, that is difficult to do!

Dear Norma, Thank you for your kind comment!

Liza Hirst said...

Thanks to you, too, Norma! That's interesting what you said about the psychological element. Wasn't aware of that myself but I see what you mean!

Wow this ones great, usually you see people who do self portraits looking very seriously, nothing at all here.

Very spontaneously.

Ooow I falling in love, .... hehehe

This is stunning! Such a beautiful and deeply thoughtful self portrait.

You have captured a sense of presence while you have imbued the portrait with great expression. Just wow.

René, that's great that you think it doesn't look serious! I had friends here yesterday who said I looked much older and more serious than in real, but I haven't even painted all my wrinkles!
Thank you so much for your sweet comment....

Hi Melinda,
I never expected so much positiv reaction to this painting and am overwhelmed! Thank you very much for putting your impression in such beautiful words!

Me too! me too! I love it too! Although I have to admit you seem a little sad in the painting to me. I was a little worried about you when I saw it... :) But then I think self-portraits alwasy come out looking very intense. AND I LOVE so many aspects of the painting part - your eyes and upper cheeks and the way the light is shining through your hair. Hey, this is starting to sound like a love song... Fantastic! Anywy, wonderful painting and great to see you back. Was missing seeing you (and your work) on-line there for a while! ( I should talk! - I have semi-abandoned my freshly started blog because I promptly dropped my good camera and broke it just after I got started! So no pics! Anyway I'll get it figured out soon and be posting again somehow.) In the meantime biz from Paris and congrats, Aliaena

Dear Aliaena,

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! I will definitely try painting myself less serious or sad again sometime. It is difficult - smiling at yourself from the mirror all the time while your concentrating so hard!
What a shame with your new camera! Sorry about that. I was wondering why you weren't posting on your blog and miss seeing your work, too! As for myself, I was unfortunately too busy with other things and simply didn't find the time nor the nerves to paint. But I hope to get back into it now.
Thanks again and bisous from the Dordogne,
Liza

Thank you, Mary! People who have met me say: at the same time it's me and it's not me....
