After all these days of festivities, visitors and other oddities, which threw me out of my routine, I am finding it a bit difficult to get back into the flow of daily painting. Hopefully that will soon change... This painting is a tribute to my fantastic, comfortable winter boots that supported me so well on an unforseen long walk through snow and ice two days ago. We were stranded in Ribérac, about 8 km from home, due to a very sudden heavy snowfall. The roads turned into skating rinks within minutes and there was no way of using the car (we did try, but had to give up). So we decided to leave it in town and walk home, instead of sitting around there doing nothing. It went better than I thought, as we are not great walkers - it took us about an hour and a half. Encouraged by that we then even returned on foot in the afternoon when we saw the snow melting and picked up the car. By then, the day was over and I was certainly too exhausted to paint!

Fabulous painting, story and boots!
Your feet boots looks so small.
I am so afraid of ice. It makes me no fun to walk with in winter.

Good for you! You are brave and a super painter.

Love Barbara

Liza, I received your book last week. I just love it! Thank you so much! If it is any consolation, after all of the holidays, I am having a challenge trying to get back to painting. I been in recovery mode. Glad to hear that others are having the same experience. You inspire me, time to get back to the easel! Your painting of the boots is wonderful!

These look like two beautifully engineered boots, Liza - and it goes without saying – beautifully painted! I’m wondering if there are a pair of cross country ski boots around as well.

Hi Barbara, it's quite challenging to walk on ice, you're right, but luckily there were only a few patches that we couldn't avoid. On the whole it was fun, too! Thank you for your compliment!

Dear Nancy, I am pleased you like my book and wish you good luck with your own paintings! I read on Carol Marine's blog that she also had some difficulties painting at the moment - she described the feeling perfectly!
Thank you for your kind comment!

Hi Marcia, these boots are already about 13 years old and still in very good condition - I love them! Unfortuneately I have never practiced cross country skiing because we very rarely have (enough) snow in this area, but when I was young I had the chance to spend a few skiing holidays in the Alps. I LOVE downhill skiing!! Pleased you like the painting. Thank you!
