Sunny Undies

Sunny Undies by Liza Hirst

For Americans this might be an unusual sight, but in Europe it is quite common to hang your undies out on the clothesline with all your other clothes and nobody really takes offence at that. Well, obviously it were not the boxer shorts that aroused my interest here but the wonderful sunlight shining through them!

Hi Liza,

You might be surprised to know that my husband regularly hangs the laundry on the line -- undies too -- but especially towels. We pay extra to dry our clothes in the dryer before nine p.m. in the evening, so it makes sense on a sunny day to use the line. Beautiful painting. Yes the light, and great colours are superb.

Hi Liza.
This is so lovely and the subject matter has such positive, happy memories and associations for me!
I hung out the 'wash' as a child and continue to do so as an adult. What I love about this painting is its sheer feeling of spontaneity!!!!

Hi Barbara,
It definitely makes sense - it's free, it doesn't use any electricity and on a nice day, it's also fun to hang the washing out, I think!
Pleased you like it - thank you!

Hi Marcia,

Sounds like you also enjoy hanging out the laundry, like I just wrote to Barbara. I am pleased you can relate
to my painting in this way and thank you for your kind comment!
