Breakfast at Otto Lenghi's
oil on canvas panel - Öl auf Malplatte - huile sur carton entoilé

This is a very nice restaurant that we discovered in Islington in Northern London, just round the corner from where we were staying. The interior was very classy and individual, a mixture of cool minimalism, seventies' chic and warm atmosphere. I especially liked the Panton chairs in different colours, all grouped around two long tables and the big flower bouquet. Should you be in London sometime, it is a "must" visit - the food is devine!
I will be going to London again next week (can't get enough of it) and will definitely explore the other Otto Lenghi locations!

I like the composition you've chosen. Did you sketch then paint or have you used a reference photo. Either way you've used the resources really well with your individual interpretation.
Thank you, Bridget! I took a photo and went from that.

Nice atmosphere. Looks like a really fun plasce to eat. I like the person reading the menu.
yum-I looked up the restaurant-looks like a great place to eat. And, love your painting.
The chairs look like 70s. Interesting colours. Have you ever been to Richoux for breakfast? That is like old England. O:-)
Hi Virginia,
Thank you! We thoroughly enjoyed being there and watching the coming and going of interesting people.
Chris, I hadn't got round to adding any text with links the other day, but have done so now. Their website doesn't promise too much! Pleased you like it! Thank you!
Hi Ulrike,
The chairs were actually produced for the first time in 1959/60 already!
I also thought they were from the seventies, but maybe that's when they became really popular.
Thank you for the tip with the Richoux, which I didn't know and will check out next time. And thank you for your comment!
This painting is very "Liza". I love that concentration of tonal value and the emphasis on abstract shape. Hope you are having a great time in London. Try to take in the Gaugin exhibition at Tate Modern if you can. It's wonderful.
Hi Liza,
What a fantastic painting. I like the warm light and the chairs like geese somehow. I've been staring at geese today up at the school where I teach, and the shape of the chairs reminds me of how they look when they stand up ready to take flight.

Hi Sheila,
You made me smile with your comment. I was very pleased that you see something like a personal "style" - wow - thank you! And you made me think about and realize what it is that I concentrate on without being totally aware of it. Sometimes it needs a distant viewer to see things clearer and you certainly seem to have a very analytic and understanding eye. You made my day! Thank you!
I am definitely going to see the Gauguin exhibition. Good that you reminded me.
Hi Barbara,
I can well imagine the similarity with the geese! We see them sometimes when driving on small roads in the countryside - it's always nice.
