Despite it being very tiring, driving home through the snow can also be quite beautiful.

The Shard Tower is a very impressive project. It actually "towers" over London Bridge Station in London and already looks fascinating, although still a building site.

Lovely Beddington Park in the south of London. I liked the man's bright orange bag contrasting with the green of the grass.

I love the decorations with the colourful lanterns that the Chinese use.
Full of "joie de vivre" and welcoming! Unfortunately it was raining when we were there, but nevertheless the atmosphere was jolly.

An intimate little path that leads you past St.Mary's church in Islington. I didn't actually walk through it, so I have no idea where it goes, but it sure did look inviting!

One thing I like about London are the many parks and greens everywhere - a nice contrast to the busy streets.

This nice little car seemes to be the hype in London at the moment. At least we kept seeing it in various pastel colours in different parts of the city. So many of it actually, that we even thought they must be remakes, but apparently they are old Nissan Figaros imported from Japan. Wouldn't mind having one myself.

I could hardly see this young woman having lunch at the café of the Whitechapel Gallery, silhouetted against the light, but I loved her hair-do and the soft colours around her!

The last few days I worked on commissions with a deadline, thus no daily paintings.
But now I'm back and continuing my London series with this young woman trying to decide what to have for dinner.

I noticed this young lady in a café on the Strand, who had probably just come from work. She looked so lonely and I felt a bit sad for her, but luckily she had only been daydreaming while waiting for her fiancé, who arrived shortly after.

Twilight in the city is one of my favourite times of the day. All the lights are on and sparkling and at the same time you still see the surroundings fairly well. A beautiful combination.

Odd Light in Marylebone

Back from the big city! We had a great time, walked miles and miles and saw some wonderful art. Two exhibitions were especially impressive to me, which made me realize again how much I admire good abstract painting. One was "Paintings of the North Sea" by John Virtue in the Marlborough Gallery on Albemarle Street. The other, just across the street in the Belgravia Gallery, was "Cowboys" by Tricia Wylie . Unfortunately, the pictures you see on the web do not do the paintings justice - they were sooo good in the flesh!
We also met up with my fellow painter from the DP gallery Olha Pryymak! I very much enjoyed meeting her and was quite excited, because this was the first time I met somebody in reality whom I had only known from the net. As my younger son put it: Welcome to the 21st century, mom! She was lovely and we had a good chat about London and about art. I like her paintings a lot and was thrilled to meet her and her little son in person! Do have a look at her work, in which she captures the feeling of London so well.

It was the strange light that inspired me to paint this scene. Everything seemed unreal, like a stage set, especially because there was no other person on the street at that moment, while Marylebone in the centre of London is usually a very lively area.
