In a Bar in Barcelona

This is one of my favourite bars in Barcelona. It has a great atmosphere and the people working there are always very friendly. Unfortunately I forgot what it's called. You might notice the cigarettes the men are holding - well, that is history now. As one of the last countries in Europe to do so, from this year on Spain has now also prohibited smoking inside public places.

I love this one. People in public spaces doing normal stuff are my favorite kind of paintings.

The glow of the interior lighting in this painting brings out the special evening atmosphere of the bar.
I was wondering when Europe would finally get with the times and ban smoking inside public places. The last time I was in Europe was 12 years ago, and thought it would never change.

Hi Liza,

I've got to admit the cigarette looks fantastic in this piece. Great painting. But I'm delighted to hear about the ban because I've had pneumonia twice, and even the smell of cigarettes on student papers makes it hard for me to breathe. Still I feel sorry for the smokers. They are
a dying breed.

Hi Kim,
Now you see groups standing and sitting outside of bars, cafés and restaurants and just when you wonder why on earth they are doing so in the
cold you remember: oh, yes, of course, it's the smokers...
I wonder how long it will last.

Hi Barbara,
Yes, I thought the same when I painted it and I also feel sorry for the smokers, although I have been a non smoker all my life. But it is definitely better for all of us!
