This is a typical street in the village of Mojacar in Andalucia. In 2000 I had the wonderful opportunity to spend a month as artist in residence in the "Fondacion Valparaiso" just outside this beautiful place. My husband and I went back for a visit a few weeks ago.

I love twilight, when it's getting light, but is still dark enough for lamps to be switched on - or vice versa. Always produces great atmosphere.

Many streets here are lined with Oleander trees. In summer they have beautiful pink blossoms.

It has been very windy and rainy the last ten days and looking at the sea one feels more like being on the Atlantic Ocean in autumn than on the Mediterranean in early spring. Although that offers interesting seascapes to paint, I am eagerly waiting for better weather!

After a short trip back to my "comfort zone" (see last few paintings), when I thought I'd had it with the waves, I realized I hadn't...
The weather changed from mild and sunny to cold and stormy and with it, the look of the sea changed, too - of course. So, I felt challenged again ( which went along with a sigh, I must admit) and battled with the difficult subject. So, another few waves to come...

Sunkissed

After a rain shower and just before the sun disappeared in the evening, I managed to capture these last sunrays brightly illuminating the top of a palm tree.

At this point I would like to tell you about the work of another artist, my dear friend Karin Weber. We have known eachother for several years now and at one time she was one of my painting class students. Nowadays, besides painting, she makes plaster sculptures, mainly of women, that are witty and amusing. My personal favourites are her white sculptures. Do have a look at her work on her blog

There are few places here without buildings right up to the waterfront, but luckily the Spanish government is more strict about that nowadays. So, there is hope that at least some parts of the Spanish coastline will remain unaffected in the future.

Distant Coastline

The high rising buildings that you see in the distance aren't very nice when you're next to them, but seen from further away, with the evening sun shining on them, they can have a certain abstract beauty, because you actually only see the colours.
