Chinese Delivery

Chinese Delivery by Liza Hirst Nowadays you don't see as many bicycles in Beijing as there used to be and therefor all the more cars. So this one seemed like a souvenir of old times... oil on canvas - Öl auf Leinwand - huile sur toile 20 cm x 20 cm / 7,9" x 7,9" sold

This is very fascinating and exciting, Liza, your Beijing paintings!
Years ago we had a ‘visiting scholar’ from Beijing live with us for almost a year each on two separate occasions with whom we’re still good friends and in touch.
He was at the time working for the then president of McMaster university doing research in their nuclear reactor as an isotope geologist.
His means of transportation for the entire winter was an old orange bicycle which he rode even through snow storms – he never missed a day. On his second visit he shipped a bicycle back to China for himself and a microwave for his wife.
Your beautiful paintings are bringing back all sorts of memories! Thank you!!!

Hi Liza,
This is one of the coolest creations that you've made. I love biking so its a little bit upsetting that bicycles are already replaced by cars in Beijing. Please keep us posted. Thank you!

Hi Marcia, thank you for sharing your memories here. I had only once met a chinese man before I went there, so this was really my first encounter with the Chinese, whom I found very welcoming and helpful. You should go to Beijing one day - its very interesting! But go in spring or autumn, because in winter it is freezing and in summer extremly hot.

Hi Pam, thank you for your comment.
Although I took lots of photos and planned to do a long series, I am not sure now that I will. I am finding myself doing illustrations rather than interesting paintings. We'll see...

Thank you very much, Grace. I have the same regret as you and would have loved to see Beijing when the bikes were still predominant.
