Barbican and Shard

Barbican and Shard by Liza Hirst

Today my friend Olha Pryymak and I met up for a plein air session at the canal in Islington. At last the weather was good and it was great fun (although the light kept changing...). Much nicer than being out there on my own. The two towers on the right are the Barbican and the new Shard Tower, which is the tallest in Europe at the moment.

I am quite ignorant about the Royal College 'products', but I have no trouble at all in taking you at your word. What I see of Dutch graduate work is not very encouraging either.
When I saw your "Barbican and Shard' I went 'WOW', what colour combination! So, for me, your 15x15 painting licks all those undoubtedly big College 'things'. Give me beauty any time! Henriet

Hi Barbara,
The light kept changing and I found myself going over and over the painting again, trying to adapt it. Thus the soft light, which now I'm quite happy with myself. In the beginning I had envisioned it much sunnier. Olha is a very nice young woman and I was so pleased we could get together to paint. We had been planning this for ages but had to wait until the weather finally cooporated. She actually painted me painting which turned out really well and I hope she'll post it, too. Take care!

René, you are so kind - caring about me painting en plein air! Thank you, my friend. I am sure one of these days we will be painting together, too! Looking forward to it.

Hello Liza,
I'd have loved to paint there with you both. The result is great, especially the white that shows the light behind the neverending clouds O;-)

Hi Ulrike,
Perhaps you will come to London one day and we can paint together. Would indeed be fun. I am pleased you like the picture. Thank you!
