Paola's Patio

Paola's Patio by Liza Hirst

Ok, I cheated a bit today in regard to plein air painting - this was painted through a window.....
It's not only the cold and the on-lookers that are obstacles for me with painting outside. There's this whole thing of having to carry the equipment you need (which sums up to quite a lot)to the spot you want to paint at and you dare not forget anything, because otherwise you have to pack it all up and carry it back again. But then, I see Peter Brown for instance, who does it all the time and in every weather!

Backyard in Barcelona

When in Barcelona we had the pleasure of staying with a friend in his lovely apartment - a breathtaking place with walls and doors probably three and a half meters high, with a beautiful mosaic floor throughout the entire apartment - even the toilet! - and an old marble sink in the kitchen. I loved the glassed veranda from which you could vaguely see the backyard with other little terrasses, washing hanging on the line, basketball baskests, flowerpots and many other features all in pastel colours, due to the fact that the windows hadn't been washed for ages -
like most windows in that city, by the way! And then that piano in front! So romantic!
