Kaffee
For years I have been using this nice coffee container in my kitchen but only today I realized that it is actually quite an antiquity! At lunch my husband worried what had happened to HIS coffee container, as he had noticed it was not at it's usual place (but in my studio). A bit amused about his concern over a shabby old tin he told me that he had inherited it from his mother, who had inherited it from her mother who had inherited it from her mother!!! So, this old shabby tin, this beautiful object, is about 140 years old!!! WOW!

Just last week, I saw an entire set of canisters like this one in the home of a friend who is from France. I thought then that it would be nice to paint them.

My Dutch parents-in-law owned a coffee jar like this I think. Amazing to think of all the people who picked it up and made coffee with it. I love the idea of it passing from generation to generation.
Very nicely painted -- lovely. Do you have a red wall, or was that a
colour choice? I like the idea of
your husband looking for objects in
your studio. That sounds like my house.

Thank you, Barbara! Unfortunately we haven't got a red wall (yet) but I simply put another canvas that I had primed in red behind the tin. I felt like painting a warm colour against the cool aspect of the tin. Then I directed a light on to it for clearer reflections.

Hi Liza, I really like the warmth of this painting. Wow, 140 years old and still doing it's job, gently reflecting your life as it has for other lives for generations.
What a lovely coffee tin - one wonders at the stories it could tell after all those years of being a part of daily lives. Painted to perfection Liza!
