I enjoyed painting this field. I had the feeling of nearly actually sculpting the soil and the grass - thus the title... For quite some time I have played with the idea of painting just soil, no grass, no sky, nothing else but thick chunks of soil, as you see them on the fields now. One of these days I'm going to tackle that challenge!

Bellevue

That is one thing I like about the countryside in the Dordogne - after having driven through tiny little villages and on curvy country roads, following a stream in a narrow valley, you suddenly arrive on a hill like this, offering a grand view, as far as the eye reaches.

The weather here at the moment is wonderful and we went for a nice walk on this path, overlooking the valley of the "Dronne". The air was like champagne, cristal clear.

Another scene from the book market and something I know well. You peep into a book, start reading the first few lines and .... can't close the book again. That is, if it's a good one of course.

With Christmas coming up, this is the time of strolling through markets, in search of original presents. Christmas-, book- and antique markets are very popular here in France and often take place in beautiful old barns, all lit up and sometimes nicely decorated.

An unusual sight for this time of year awaited me when I stepped out of our front door in the morning. Snow in Southwest France before January! Never had that before, at least not in the last 15 years. A great view to paint for me!
