La Defense by Night 

   

It's been ages, as you might have noticed and I am very, very happy to be back. Back here, back to painting, back to me (maybe, hopefully...) I haven't been ill or anything like that, just occupied with other things. Sometimes I need a break from painting. To get started again, I chose a photo that a friend of mine sent me recently. He lives in Paris and enjoyes this view from his balcony to La Defense. Lucky him.

St.Paul's III

Happy New Year everyone!I hope you all had a great holiday.
I am still working on views of St.Paul's Cathedral and have here tried to capture its majestic presence, even more apparent at night when lights make it stand out of the dark blue sky.

Night on Upper Street, London

As it should be when you come to London, of course it rained. The first three nights we stayed in Islington, where this scene was enhanced by the reflections on the wet pavement. Sometimes we artists do love rain, don't we?

Café in Paris

One of my favorite cafés in Paris is the "Café Marly" in the Louvre, from which you can enjoy the view onto the famous Pyramid built by Ieoh Ming Pei, an American Architect. I had always visited it in the daytime and only recently had the opportunity to be there late at night and discover what a wonderful atmosphere it has then, too. Just a few late guests, having their last glass of wine for the day, somewhat sleepy already - it felt a bit like being at someones's house at the end of a party. A very posh house, mind you....
