Into the Village
oil on canvas - Öl auf Leinwand - huile sur toile
60 x 60 cm / 23,6 x 23,6"
This is a larger version of the last painting I posted. I have been struggling with it over the last week and was more than once on the verge of wiping it all out. This morning I attempted it one last time by trying out painting with a spatula instead of brushes for the first time ever. And voilà! it worked much better than before and was good fun, too.
I find it quite a bit more difficult to paint in a larger size after having concentrated mainly on the smaller daily paintings for many years - but I am enjoying the challenge!

I discovered this little castle on a recent walk in fantastic weather.

So, here's the beautiful young lady I was telling you about the other day.
She commissioned me to paint her brother's and her portrait as a gift for her mother's 50th birthday.

Everybody tells me, I look terribly stern here, but you don't smile at yourself when trying to concentrate on capturing the features! How do you like my old fashioned painting smock?!
I love it, because it's very useful - no changing into work clothes anymore!
Saves a lot of time.

Another triptych

Again I like the three cups together as a triptych.I'm not sure yet whether my "cup phase" will go on,
but as long as the weather is still terrible, I will focus on painting things inside, trying to keep warm.
Hope that won't be too long, because I am really looking forward to doing some plein air painting again.
So much to "sunny South of France"!

Blue onion

Painting of the day
15 cm x 15 cm - 5,9" x 5,9"
Oil on canvas - Öl auf Leinwand - huile sur toile
Seems like I'm in my "cup phase" at the moment, which I thoroughly enjoy!
This one has a traditonal german design that dates from the 18th century and was originally
created in Meißen, Saxon , so it is also called "Saxon design". But I like "blue onion"!

New Work
Have been painting small formats lately, in order to get a flow back into my work after quite a long time of abstinence.
Although they are classic and not really exiting, I am enjoying doing them and quite pleased with the result. Here's an example:

It's amazingly warm here in Southwest France for this time of year, so that I could leave the door to my studio open and let the sunshine in. What a delight!
