With Christmas coming up, this is the time of strolling through markets, in search of original presents. Christmas-, book- and antique markets are very popular here in France and often take place in beautiful old barns, all lit up and sometimes nicely decorated.

Flowers for the New Year

To me this beautiful bouquet of champagne roses seemed the perfect decoration to greet the new year. Abundant and delicate at the same time. Have a wonderful year 2010 everybody!

Slowly but surely I am running out of corners to paint and am thinking of asking friends if I could perhaps paint in their houses, because I really enjoy doing these interiors.

It is getting dark earlier everyday now and we have to turn on our lamps in the afternoon already. I like this time of year (actually I like all times of the year), when we retreat into our cosy nest, light a fire in the fireplace and enjoy the blues outside and the warm yellows and oranges inside.

Culinaria

The book on desserts from the restaurant “Chez Panisse” near (in?) San Francisco was given to me about 20 years ago by an admirer of mine who came from there.
I love it! And although it was only the book I fell in love with and not the man, every time I use it, it reminds me of that nice, handsome beach boy from San Francisco, whom I might well have forgotten without his thoughtful present. That’s the great thing about presents – they can keep memories alive!

Le portrait

This book "Le portrait" on top of one of numerous piles of books that are scattered around my house is a wonderful book with portrait paintings throughout the centuries, by the french publishing house "Gallimard". The cover depicts a detail from the painting "Young woman with a red hat" by Jan Vermeer, one of my absolute favorite artists.
