At the Seaside

oil on canvas panel - Öl auf Malplatte - huile sur carton entoilé
15 cm x 15 cm / 5,9" x 5,9"

This is a sketch for a larger painting I might want to paint soon. It is based on one of my all time favourite black and white photographs of my parents and was taken when they had just started dating. I love the carefree mood and the feeling of summer, sun and love. And, from a visual point of view I really like the way the colours of their clothes form a cross - a checker board design - and I like the angle, seeing them from below which gives lots of open sky as background.

Of Course

Of Course by Liza Hirst

I like the fairly loose style of this one. The figures definitely have me back for a while!

It's been some time since I last posted here. My husband and I went on a trip to London, which was so absorbing that my crayons and paper never got to be used, inspite of my good intensions. But - I have taken loads of photographs and am looking forward to working from them. London was great and very inspiring, as you can imagine! I didn't feel at all like leaving when we had to...
The shot for this first "London" painting was taken after we had just arrived - heading for Islington and waiting for the "Northern Line" late in the evening.

A serious man in a colorful interior. He can be very funny, too - thank God!

After Lunch Coffee

Yet another version which I am quite happy with. Barbara found the absolutely beautiful, silver teapot that you see a bit of in front, at a "brocante" (flea market) in the area for 5 euros! I was sooo envious!

Listening

Time for me to "move on"! We were invited for lunch yesterday by friends of ours who are not only wonderful people but who also have one of the most beautiful houses I have seen so far. Visiting these friends always seems like taking a holiday at a wellness farm or something like that - I feel so pampered and spoilt by them!
And at last I got some new inspiration which I was lacking desperately!
I took a few photos and plan to paint from them over the next days. Here's the first one of our host Barbara, which I might attempt a second time tomorrow because I actually envisioned it with slightly different colours and a bit more abstract. But I like this one too, so that's why I am posting it.

Vittoria, standing

Vittoria, standing by Liza Hirst

pencil on paper, crayon sur papier, Bleistift auf Papier
21 cm x 30 cm

I just realized that I hardly posted anything this last week, but I have actually been painting (nearly) every day! Can't show it to you yet....
Well, today we did our drawing class again and followed Vittoria's great suggestion to just do one minute poses. Here's one of mine which I quite like. The lines are actually a bit lighter than they appear here, as they were drawn with pencil.
Should anybody be interested in buying it, I offer it to you for 30 Euros. Just write me an email.

Sketch of Vittoria

Sketch of Vittoria

pencil on paper, crayon sur papier, Bleistift auf Papier
21 cm x 30 cm

Instead of doing my usual painting class, we had this beautiful model sitting for us today and did drawings. I hadn't drawn people for years and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge in spite of the fact that I noticed how rusty my drawing skills are.
